WESTVILLE BOYS’ HIGH SCHOOL proudly presents William Shakespeare’s thrilling political drama CORIOLANUS.

Directed by Luke Holder and starring Pierre Parrott as the titular hero, CORIOLANUS weaves a provocative and often brutal tale of a war hero thrust into Rome’s political spotlight as a reluctant candidate for a high-ranking office. As famine stalks Rome, the citizens rise up. The rioting is halted by war and Caius Martius (later Coriolanus) leads the Roman Army to victory, but the people turn against him and he is banished. He vows revenge and returns at the head of the Volscian army to march on Rome. Unable to bend to the whims of the populace he so despises, Coriolanus eventually is destroyed by the very machine that built him up.

As a prescribed NSC Matric English Home Language setwork, this is a rare opportunity to bring the production to life for all IEB learners, facilitating more meaningful teaching and provocative classroom discussions, as well as providing invaluable preparation for the mini-essay question in their final paper.

Tickets for all IEB learners and teachers are R10 each. Tickets for members of the public are R30 each. Shows run from Tuesday 7th March until Friday 10th March, starting at 7pm, in the Roy Couzens Theatre at Westville Boys’ High School.
