Emilio Tobias and Tsitsi Chiumya – “How We Got These Suits”

Previously Sold Out Debut Comedy Special Comes to the BAT Centre in Durban - 25 November 2017

Emilio Tobias and Tsitsi Chiumya presents the Durban leg of their debut national one-man comedy tour, ‘How We Got These Suits’ live at the Durban BAT Centre.

How We Got These Suits’ is the debut comedy special from emerging South African comedians, Emilio Tobias and Tsitsi Chiumya. The show showcases a brand-new style of comedy, focusing on their journeys of growing up in two extremes: One of a Coloured child growing up in Soweto, the other as Black child born into the rural community Lebowakgomo in Limpopo.

The talented duo whose comedic chemistry started as friends in high school, have gone on to establish themselves as the local young comedians to watch. With a career that began only two short years ago in 2015, both Emilio and Tsisti have racked up quite the comedic reputation.

Tsitsi has already been nominated for a prestigious Savannah’s Choice award, in the category of SA’s most promising young comedian in 2017. Most recently he appeared as a formidable guest on Mzansi Magic’s Comedy Wednesday, which has featured everyone from Skhumba Hlope to Schalk Bezuidenhout.

Emilio was the winning young comedian of the national comedy search competition, #TrendingComics in 2017 - a national comedy touring platform hosted by the Johannesburg International Comedy Festival and officially sponsored by Tall Horse Wines. As part of the tour, he performed at sold-out shows in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban alongside a host of industry giants including Carvin H Goldstone, Robby Collins, Neil Green, Donovan Goliath, Schalk Bezuidenhout, Loyiso Madinga and Mpho Popps.

Collectively the pair have performed on multiple stages around the country, in a wide range of clubs. This includes The Goliath Comedy Club, The Cape Town Comedy Club, The 031 Comedy club in Durban, Joburg Theatre, The Baxter Theatre, Parker’s Comedy at Montecasino, Kitchener’s in Braamfontein, Poppy’s in Melville and Hooters in Umhlanga.

Both comedians have opened for many local comedic powerhouses which include the likes of John Vlismas, Barry Hilton, Nik Ravinowitz and Carvin H Goldstone.

Suzanne Du Toit has this to say about the “How We Got These Suits” debut at the Joburg Theatre “...both sets had range. The material was politically, culturally and socially charged. Yes, the humour was broad and inclusive, touching on several national issues but it also  drew from their respective regional backgrounds (Tsitsi’s being Limpopo and Emilio’s being Eldorado Park) and yet at no point did it feel isolating.”

The two debuted ‘How We Got These Suits’ at The Joburg Theatre to a sold-out crowd.

How We Got These Suits’ stages in Durban at The Bat Centre on 25 November 2017 at 7:30pm. Tickets are R100 via www.quicket.co.za or R120 at the door.
