ONCE UPON A FAIRY – Not the ADULT PANTO

For 19 years Durban has been entertained by the Adult Panto team.  In an unexpected turn of events the 20th year has been cancelled and replaced by “Not The Adult Panto”.  Pencils were sharpened, old costumes dusted off and a fresh new concept was born to ensure that Durban audiences will be in stiches once again. From Snow White to Cinderella, the fairytales accumulated into this year’s ONCE UPON A FAIRY.

A different take, a more intimate venue, yet still with all the season’s festive froth and frolics, this show promises plenty of double entendre, well-known songs, jokes, and a plot that’s not difficult to follow — just don’t bring the kids. Naughty but nice, indeed.

Yes, boys and girls, after many years happily spent sullying the memory of all our best loved fairy tales, this year’s adult panto takes us away from Neverland to Nkandla.  The Evil Queen is holding onto power and tries her utmost best to prevent the wedding of the century.  There are probes into alleged personal gain allegations, sex scandals and true fairytale happily ever after moments.

The show will bring light to the global economic crisis, strike actions, the ash cloud that prevents us to go on that annual holiday and the influx of unknown Christmas shoppers in every mall in the city. Escape from reality, come and have fun and for once just let go!

Starring in this year’s show is Jaziel Vaugh’ann, who will be playing the Evil Ruler; TQ Zondi as the energetic heir and Prince and Thomie Holtzhausen in an array of roles.  The highlight of the show is the introduction of well-known artist Kerry Lee McKibben as Princess Cindi Spitz.  She hails from Boksburg and is a biker girl to be reckoned with. ONCE UPON A FAIRY is written and directed by Thomie Holtzhausen with music arrangement by Jaziel Vaugh’ann.

The show opens on 17 November and runs until 15 January, Tuesdays to Saturdays at 7.30pm. Patrons may bring along a picnic basket (excluding drinks) or can pre-order a variety of snack baskets from the Skyy Café next door.

A new intimate venue situated at 25 Silver Avenue with plenty of secure parking and easily accessible from Umgeni and Stamford Hill Roads will host the frolicking and fun and provides an after show bar and dance floor. The perfect year-end function as always. Tickets are R140 and can be booked online on www.quicket.co.za or phone  064 476 9533 during office hours.  Email enquiries via thomie@live.co.za.
