CONCERTO FESTIVAL - Durban City Orchestra

SUNDAY 28 JULY 2024  Show starts 15.00
(Venue opens 90 minutes before show for snacks/drinks)

The Durban City Orchestra, conducted by Charl van der Merwe, will present a Concerto Concert at the Rhumbelow Theatre on 28 July. The DCO is a vibrant community orchestra which has been in existence since 1888, and boasts members from all walks of life. It provides a platform for amateurs, scholars, and students to perform within an orchestral environment.

It is the second oldest symphony orchestra in South Africa, although it has been known under various aliases during this time: Durban Municipal Orchestra, the Durban Symphony Orchestra and Gateway Philharmonic Orchestra. It is a registered non-profit organisation.

This exciting initiative will feature soloists from the DCO who will play a selection of movements from concertos from some well-loved classics by Vivaldi, Haydn, Mozart, Bruch, Chaminade, Seitz and beyond. Solo instruments featured include the bassoon, flute, trumpet, violin, recorder and clarinet. Come and enjoy a Classical treat with an orchestra of passionate music lovers which promises to be a feast for the soul.
