The Westville Country Club Bowls Section have been performing mime shows to raise funds for the Bowls Section for many years. Last year, under new producers Bridget & Dylan Mathews they devised a show that was a complete departure from previous years, incorporating more musical numbers and less comedy skits. They have followed the same formula this year and with a cast of enthusiastic bowlers, produced a show titled “Local is Lekker”. The show received rave reviews from those who attended performances at Westville Country Club Bowls.

Members of the Rhumbelow Shellhole Executive attended one of the performances and enjoyed the show so much that they felt it should be performed at the Rhumbelow Theatre, Umbilo. The show includes excerpts from Springbok Radio recordings, old South African adverts, well known local songs both in English and Afrikaans, a few local comedy numbers and jokes with a local flavour.

You can expect to hear music from Al Debbo, Brenda Fassie, Clout, David Kramer, Doctor Victor, Freshly Ground, Jeremy Taylor, Johnny Clegg, Kurt Darren, Mango Groove, Miriam Makeba, P J Powers, Sipho Hotstix Mabuse, The Staccatos and more.
