OUT OF BOUNDS

In this 2016 Standard Bank Ovation award winning production, 27 characters come to life through two actors in a flavourful story of an Indian family in transition from apartheid into democracy.

Out of Bounds let’s rip the diminutive voice of Indians in South Africa, a voice often overlooked, lying somewhere in between black and white. The play not only explores this space in between but resonates with families from all backgrounds, cultures and races.

With added extra spice, sugar cane and raw humour that punches you right in the guts- Lall, the main character takes us on a journey as he dares to travel on the spice route of self-discovery.

“So OUT OF BOUNDS is the pieces of spice in a bowl of curry; the cloves, the bay leaf the cinnamon; my mother calls them "speed traps" because they interrupt you when you're eating. But I think that just like those little moments in life that may feel aggravating, such as the moments Lall looks back on in the play, they're really there to stop you on your journey and remind you what made it so delicious in the first place.” – Tazme Pillay
