BRAHMS: HIS MOST BEAUTIFUL WALTZES AND HUNGARIAN DANCES

Following their highly acclaimed, sold-out performances at the eighth Wakkerstroom Music Festival in Mpumalanga earlier this year, classically trained pianists,  Carin van Graan and Chanie Jonker, bring their programme of Johannes Brahms’s (1833-1897) beautiful Waltzes and Hungarian Dances – original compositions for one piano, four hands – to the Hilton Arts Festival audience.

Brahms referred to the 16 Waltzes as “innocent little Waltzes in the style of Schubert”; they are mostly in a Viennese or Austrian vein, but some have a slightly more Hungarian feel. The Hungarian Dances are based on gypsy themes and are among Brahms’ most popular works.

The concert will consist of the complete set of Waltzes, Op. 39, as well as the following Hungarian Dances: numbers 1 (G minor), 2 (D minor), 3 (F major), 4 (F minor), 7 (A major), 17 (F-sharp minor), 19 (B minor), 5 (F-sharp minor) and 6 (D-flat major).
