The triumphant return of Don Quixote on stage and screen

The charming story of Don Quixote once again returns to the Royal Opera House stage and screen, performed by The Royal Ballet. Based on passages from Miguel de Cervantes’ novel of the same name, the ballet follows Don Quixote and his squire, Sancho Panza, as they encounter a young couple, Kitri and Basilio, and help to bring them together.

Former Royal Ballet Principal dancer Carlos Acosta’s 2013 production will be broadcast live to selected cinemas internationally on Tuesday 7 November 2023. Audiences will be transported back to 17th century Spain with Tim Hatley’s outstanding designs and Hugh Vanstone’s atmospheric lighting, all set to Martin Yates’s arrangement and orchestration of Ludwig Minkus’ delightfully lively score.

Featuring Principal dancers Mayara Magri as Kitri and Matthew Ball as Basilio performing some of The Royal Ballet’s most bravura choreography, Don Quixote is a perfect demonstration of the Company’s incredible talent. Full of wit and verve, this exuberant ballet is sure to bring some of the most joyful moments of the Season.

The ROH cinema programme has brought opera and ballet to audiences across the globe since 2008. Each broadcast offers audiences the best seat in the house, and includes exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, interviews and insights into the rehearsal process. The programme forms an integral part of our plan to secure our future, expand audiences and continue to help facilitate the vital recovery of cinema domestically and internationally.
