Kicking off Music Mondays at the Rhumbelow Theatre are two of the best Durban based guitarists, Eston Lloyd and Milton Chissano.
Eston Lloyd has been playing guitar and singing since the age of 8. At age 15 he co-founded a rock band called “Grounded4Life”. His musical inspirations include bands such as U2, Coldplay, Red Hot Chili Peppers, John Mayer, Jack Johnson, and many more.
Eston has performed on tour with established South African recording artists, Lloyd Cele and Lenski Alfred. He has also featured as part of many South African gospel and secular artists. The experience and challenges of working with such artists has enhanced Eston’s ability to perform various genres such as popular music, rhythm and blues, afro-jazz, blues and fusion, aside from his initial love for rock. Eston has released Singles (Just Me and You) on iTunes on the 11th of February 2015 and His Second Single was released on iTunes on the 12th of March 2015 and a 3rd single by July 2018. He also featured on The Voice South Africa (Season 2) at the Blind Auditions and received a favorable response from Lira, Karen Zoid and Bobby van Jaarsveld.
Apart from performing with other artists, Eston also performs solo at intimate acoustic events like this one at Rhumbelow.
Mozambique’s Milton Chissano is a guitarist, composer and arranger. . From an early age he was passionate in playing the guitar. He met a Spanish Catholic priest who introduced him to classical guitar; flute dolce, musical sight reading and musical theory.
As growing up in Maputo, capital of Mozambique, he had opportunities to meet and mingle with a many musician of various musical backgrounds; from traditionally- orientated musicians, Mozambican folk music players to the Afro, jazzy, brazilian/cuban (Latin music) and pop orientated musicians.
In the last 15 years he's been based in Durban where at first he came to study music (jazz and popular music) at the UKZN ( Howard College ) He has been playing with various local musicians , his own Tropic Jazz Trio as well as being a Solo performer (fingerstyle guitar picking) .
He has led various bands, including Bantu’s Clef which launched its first official concert in 2008 at The Centre for Jazz and Popular music (UKZN) where the band enjoyed performing and was filled with love and support from the Jazz Centre audience. From there the band decided to continue feeding the "world" its possibilities with this musical gift.
Chissano will highlight special musical moments from more relaxing tunes followed by some interesting contrasts. The audience will experience an honest picture of his musical world with interpretations of repertoire ranging from Latin Jazz, Smooth jazz, pop, Bollywood Classics, Local African music and a feast some of original compositions.
